The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car. The three levels of self-awareness that are involved in this are: 1) rationalization; 2) resistance; and 3) judgment.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.
That’s an excellent point. I also think that self-awareness has to be brought out in more than one area at once. Just because you’re getting a lot of credit for this doesn’t mean you deserve it. The first step is to recognize that you have a habit of doing something that you know is wrong. Then you can either resist that habit and stop yourself from doing it, or you can start doing it and look at yourself and see if you can stop yourself from doing it.
I think that self-awareness is a very important factor in helping you to choose between doing something that is right for you and doing something that is right for someone else.
There are three types of self-awareness. The first is self-awareness that comes with realizing that you are not alone when you decide to do something that you know is wrong. The second is self-awareness that comes with realizing that people in your life are not always right all the time. The third is self-awareness that comes with realizing that you will get into trouble if you don’t make a conscious effort to stop yourself from doing something that you know is wrong.
Those three types of self-awareness are all represented in one of the most famous quotes in the world. The first quote goes: “It is not the critic who counts…” and that is a great reminder that we are all in charge of our own lives.
The second quote goes All of the sudden, you realized that you were in charge of your life, and you were not to be messed with.
The third quote goes The difference between doing something harmful to yourself and doing something harmful to another is that you chose to do the harmful thing.
I feel like we’re talking about two totally different areas of life here, but still, it’s nice to see that a correlation between self-awareness and self-control is a perfect negative correlation in and of itself.
The only downside is that it doesn’t really matter if you live with a perfect negative correlation, because the fact that you’re aware of your negative thoughts and negative behaviors will often stop them from happening. But maybe that’s okay, because the difference between doing something harmful to yourself and doing something harmful to another is that you chose to do the harmful thing.
